Viviendo Valiente: HIV Education
April 1 & 2, 2026

Viviendo Valiente is designed to increase HIV awareness, testing, linkage to high-quality HIV care, retention in care, and viral suppression among Latinos, particularly those of Mexican origin, by using culturally responsive strategies at the individual, group, and community levels.
Key elements include:

•Culturally responsive education: Training that equips community health workers and other facilitators to educate about HIV prevention, transmission, testing, treatment, and care in ways that resonate with Latino communities.
•Multi-level outreach: Individual support, group workshops, and broader community engagement through health fairs and culturally relevant messaging to reduce stigma and promote care access.

•Community health worker focus: The intervention uses trained promotores/promotoras who share cultural and linguistic backgrounds with participants to build trust and improve engagement.

•Training opportunities: Viviendo Valiente also functions as a curriculum used in Community Health Worker (CHW) training settings to build the skills and competencies needed to support HIV care engagement within Latino communities.

The approach strives to reduce disparities in HIV care and outcomes by addressing social, cultural, and structural barriers to care and promoting sustained engagement in HIV treatment.

This event is FREE and lunch will be PROVIDED.

The UT San Antonio and Valley AIDS Council AETC teams are the co-hosts for this training and we hope to see many of you there!
